Kate talking about her special Gosselins Go Green

Kate Gosselin totally kvetching in Jon & Kate special
Fans and foes of the hit TLC series Jon & Kate Plus 8 will be happy to know that Kate Gosselin is in fine form on the Jon & Kate Plus 8 Go Green special airing at 9 p.m. Sunday.

The Gosselins and the eight kids have this fabulous house, and now comes Steve Thomas, of Renovation Nation, to do everything from install solar panels on the roof to making a picnic table out of reclaimed wood, at no cost to her, and what is Kate doing? She's kvetching.

Not big-time kvetching at first. Kate always starts low key and then builds. But she hasn't got even a hint of a smile on her face from the moment the workmen arrive.

"I don't like projects still. I don't like dishevelment. And Steve Thomas," she says, giving a twist to her voice to mock the name, "wants me to get all excited... I mean, I was excited about this going green or whatever."

Thomas quickly gets the drift of the Kate-led household, and when the solar panels don't arrive on time during the day of installation, he asks Jon, "Is you wife going to beat you up about this?"

And Jon, revealing his survival strategy, says, "We just won't tell her."

There is some green learning to be done in this special, but mainly it is an hour intended to keep the big audience for this show happy until the new season starts May 25 -- and to remind fans and foes of what a warm and friendly person Kate can be.

I give it three and half stars for Kate's uncanny ability to instantly put a whole household and all the workmen on edge with the cranky tone of her voice and sour look on her face.

APRIL 19TH 9:00 PM Jon and Kate + 8 GO GREEN!

The Gosselin family is going green this year with the help of Planet Green's Renovation Nation host, Steve Thomas. From solar panels to eco-friendly lightbulbs, the family is transforming their new house into an eco-savy home.
Steve and his crew help the Gosselins transform their home into an "eco-savvy" dwelling by installing electric solar panels, solar thermal panels and solar powered lights along the driveway.

It is also educational for the kids, who get to help with the projects, so they learn about the environment while having fun with their mom and dad.

The fifth season of "Jon & Kate Plus 8" will premiere at the end of May.

Interview with Kate before Canada Appearance

TLC's Jon & Kate Plus 8 mom Kate Gosselin is a busy lady. Besides raising eight children - a set of twins and sextuplets - with cameras in her home a few days a week, she's author to a best-selling book and a new one to promote and she's sharing some "secrets" with her fans...

Gosselin, whose new book "Eight Little Faces: A Mom's Journey" is set for release next month is making her first Canadian appearance in London, Ontario on March 22.

She recently took questions from Free Press arts and entertainment reporter Kathy Rumleski, and revealed some "secrets" on parenting, balancing work and motherhood and what the future may hold.

Here is the interview:

How do you find the time to care for the children, write two books and film your television series?

"It is my job. It is extremely crazy busy and sometimes I think I can't handle it all, but I try to look at all of the positives. I can basically make my own schedule and I really like that. Every day is a challenge and I have become a scheduling miracle worker through it all! Also, I can't forget to mention that Jon and our babysitter also make it possible for me to travel and work."

You once feared for the life of your babies, what is your biggest fear now that they are four years old?

"Balancing each of their needs, all eight of my kids."

What is your biggest challenge each day?

"Having enough time for everything that must get done!"

How do you make ends meet, especially in these economic times?

"We're doing the same things we have always done: Clipping coupons; watching for sales; stocking up when things are on sale and planning meals (and other purchases) according to sale flyers."

Why did you want to write a second book?

"The same reason I wanted to write a first book--for my kids! Also, I can't describe how wonderful it feels to be an accomplished bestselling author. Who would have thought?"

Why do you think your TV show has such wide appeal, with kids to grandmothers loving it?

"We are still surprised by the major ratings and reactions. Some people see us as 'inspiring' while we feel like we are just parents doing what it takes to raise our uniquely made up family. Little kids watch to 'make friends' with our kids. Teens watch because they babysit and don't have kids yet. Young married couples watch because they look to the future of their families. Young parents watch to get advice or see how we do things or even to remind themselves they 'have it easy.' Older parents watch to reminisce, as do grandparents.....and so on......."

What are your plans for the future in terms of your public life? Will we see more books, more TV shows, more marketing of your family?

"I know one thing for sure; I am never sure what the future holds for us! However, I am enjoying doing TV in all capacities that I have had the privilege of doing and my dream is that there is a future talk show waiting for me!"

Are you looking forward to your first Canadian appearance and why did you choose to make it in London?

"I AM looking forward to my first Canadian appearance. I happen to know that we have A LOT of fans in Canada so it should be extra exciting! By the way, I just learned that my grandma was born in London, Ontario, Canada so it will be extra special for me to visit."

Why did you choose to get two dogs in an already busy house? And how is the new home?

"We chose two dogs because we never do things in 'ones' and I guess my family caught me on a weak day."

Kate's new book includes photographs from their personal family albums, Scripture passages and thoughts from her, in her own handwriting.

Her first book "Multiple Blessings" was co-written with friend Beth Carson, and hit the New York Times bestseller list.
